NRS 415 Discuss how professional nursing organizations support the field of nursing and how they advocate for nursing practice

The nursing profession is consistently being confronted with various challenges such as workplace safety, welfare of nurses, professional development, and continuous education. Professional organizations in the nursing profession are established to tackle these myriad challenges and protect the interest of her members. professional associations in nursing are established with clear objectives which they are set up to take care of.  Some of the merit of these organizations include but are not limited to facilitating workshop and conferences, organizing seminars to update her member of the latest trends in nursing, improving the standard of healthcare delivery, networking, professional growth and development, support for continuous education and improvement in skills and leadership development (Klinshaw, n.d.).  According to Thomas (2022), the goal of professional organizations is to improve and transform services continually to increase client satisfaction.

A vital aspect of these professional organizations is advocacy. By advocacy, they act as the voice of her member consistently pushing for her interest and improved welfare, advocating for policy making when certain laws and administrative regulations are to be enacted which will affect the interest of her member. Through advocacy, professional bodies also engage in public sensitization in terms of education, workplace safety, promotion of health and well-being of nurses in the workplace (Klinshaw, n.d.).

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) was established mainly to educate nurses working in the newly developed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with the main purpose of accommodating the diverse complexity of patients that are critically ill (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, n.d.). AACN maintains a diverse information dissemination system which is comprises of online and printed newsletters. It includes the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter, website- www.aacn.org . Over the years, has also established an online newsletter, journals publications.  AACN also engages in research activities and consistently communicates new trends that will advance the career development of her members.

In addition, being a member of AACN offers various opportunities for professional development and continuing education. Members have free and unlimited access to Continuing education (CE) activities on a variety of topics related to critical care nursing (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, n.d.). This will further enhance their knowledge, improve standard of care, enhance ethical compliance, and expose them to latest trends in critical care nursing practice. Seminars and conferences organized by AACN also form an avenue for her nurses to learn new skills and exchange ideas on how to improve nursing practice. AACN also offers discounted certifications and scholarships to its members (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, n.d.).
